Shopping for food in Chesterfield

We went to visit Chesterfield where there is a really good market. They sell all kinds of things including fruit, vegetables, bread, cakes, cheese and so on. There is also a covered market and here we found a wonderful and really helpful farmer/butcher. We had a really interesting discussion about his Sheffield knife and the whole queue seemed to join in!cutleryandcatering

Because this has been a market town for generations and the market has thrived, there seems to be an absence of supermarkets in the town centre and so wonderful food shops have grown up around the market place such as this bakery. The cakes and pork pies we bought were delicious. (The nicest pork pie I have ever had!)

and they were selling the most wonderful cakes for Valentine's Day. This is just a sample. You may prefer to make your own and, if you do,we have everything you need for baking.

The market in Chesterfield is well worth a visit if you like good food. If you look closely you can just about see the famoustwisted spire of the church.

These were the nicest I have ever tasted Macm ( and we used to like in Melton Mowbray!!) These are even better than the ones in Melton.

Did you visit Northern Tea Merchants in Chesterfield?

It's on my to do list!

No we didn't visit them because we are dedicated Yorkshire tea drinkers so no need. There was a wonderful stall on the market selling ceramics and we bought a lovely white china tea pot, though.
